The chaos kicked off around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, when plainclothes officers from the department's 3rd District spotted a suspected drug transaction during a proactive criminal enforcement operation.
When officers moved in, the suspected buyer was caught with marijuana, cocaine, and prescription pills—some of which they admitted buying from the dealer, police said.
But the so-called dealer had other plans.
In a desperate attempt to flee, the suspect tried to ram a police cruiser. Though the escape plan failed, and the dealer was quickly taken into custody.
A search of the vehicle revealed more than two pounds of marijuana and a loaded handgun that police later learned was stolen from another jurisdiction.
Police said the dealer, a convicted felon with previous handgun convictions, was booked on felony charges at Central Processing.
Neither the dealer nor buyer lives in Montgomery County, they noted.
“We will continue to root out criminal activity, especially getting dangerous guns off the street, in order to make our community safer for all,” Montgomery County Police said in a statement.
